Where is Your Confidence Grounded?

Self esteem..self-confidence...self-assurance...inner strength...self motivation...probably every one of us has been told to have this in order to succeed in whatever is before you. In this world we live in, the things listed above are the mantra of life in order to achieve and be successful. I must say they are true for those who don't fully understand the concept of life from God's Word. But remember, you and I do not follow the ways of this world/culture (Colossians 2:8). You and I, we have placed our faith and life in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. It is OK for us to be self-confident?   Great question! A couple things for us to remember what God's once spoken...now written...still speaking Word of God tells us. Our heart is deceitful and sick>Jeremiah 17:9 Our flesh, sinful nature is still trying to have it's way>Galatians 5:16 Our mind is powerful>8:6 Thankfully as a Disciple of Jesus Christ things are changing for us! Ephesians 1:13>We have the same Spirit Jesus Christ had! I John 3:1-3>He purifies our hearts II Thessalonians 2:13>He is making us more like Christ in our hearts Romans 12:1,2> He is transforming us through His word In other words...We must not deceive ourselves into thinking we have what it takes on our own. Remember, the gifts and abilities we do have were given to us by God (Psalm 139:13-15) in the first place. Also, even though we do have the Holy Spirit within us, which is our strength, wisdom, and confidence, our flesh is still trying to lead us into sin (Galatians 5:16). Our heart is still be cleansed and will not be completely pure and trustworthy until we see Jesus face to face. Our confidence is to be in the Lord, in a conscience and heart that is soaked in God's grace and holiness, which is found in a relationship with Him and other believers through His word and fellowship (Proverbs 3:26; II Corinthians 1:12: Philippians 3:3). Yes, we walk in our God-given gifts and abilities for His glory (and have a blast while doing it), and we have goals and dreams, but our confidence must be in Him, because He has a plan for each one of our lives (Jeremiah 29:11-13). Once we place our faith and trust in Him, there is no turning back. When we try and trust in ourselves and our plans we will not have God's peace and God's blessing in our lives. So, let's place our confidence in Him, and rely on His wisdom, strength, and guidance (Proverbs 3:5-7) as we set our goals, make our daily choices, and walk in our God-given gifts and abilities.  That way, when things don't go as we thought, we are still in His hands and He is still unveiling His plan. And when things do go our way, we will thank Him and give Him the glory as we reap the benefits of walking out His plan for our lives! ...by the truth of His word...by the power of His Spirit...
